Your Walk Down the Aisle

It is completely normal to be scouring the internet for tips for the wedding day. Getting married in undoubtedly a crazy, amazing time of love and excitement, but it can also bring along some very real nerves. Your day is full of big moments, but one you might be most nervous about? Walking down the aisle.

These aren’t your everyday tips for the wedding day. As a wedding photographer who has been capturing joy-filled love for over a decade, I’ve learned a thing or two about those big moments of a wedding. Walking down the aisle is a simple idea, your honey is at the end waiting for you, you’re strolling down with some music while your guests gawk at you both. But in the moment, those nerves can creep in and tamper with that moment. So to avoid that tummy twisting feeling, I wanted to give you some tips and tricks I’ve collected over the years.

Let’s break down walking down the aisle

BEFORE THE WALK

Take a deep breath. Take it all in! Yes, there are people out there, looking right at you. But they are there to celebrate your love. How incredible is that?! So instead of feeling nervous to start the walk, let those nerves turn to excitement. In just moments, you’ll get to marry the love of your life!

Walking with a family member? Lean into their comfort. Give a little squeeze of the hand. A wink to let them know you’re ready for this! They’ll be with you every step, so make sure they are comfortable, too!

Choose music you love! When the music kicks in, let it fill you with joy and excitement! You’ll want to pick a song that has meaning to you or one that really lights you up. Here is a great list of songs to walk down the aisle to that you might love!

DURING THE WALK

Walk slowly. Very slowly. I know the adrenaline running through your body makes it difficult to realize how fast you are walking, but trust me, you aren’t going too slow. Take your time. If you are walking down with someone else, ask them to set the pace!

Wondering where to look? Look at your honey. Holy moly that will be a moment! Look at the guests. Soak in their excitement and love. Wondering where not to look? At the photographer! Pretend I am a ninja (because well, I kind of am) and that I’m invisible. I’ll capture the moment, don’t worry. But don’t focus on the camera!

Don’t forget to make an exit!

Celebrate with your lover! You just married the love of your life!! Don’t run away just yet. Use your exit down the aisle to really take in the energy of the moment. Again, don’t focus on the photographer. Send love out to your guest! To your partner!

And don’t hold in the joy of the moment. Whatever you are feeling, let it out! Some of the most incredible wedding aisle exit photographs I’ve seen show just how much joy the couple is feeling. They are on cloud nine and they aren’t afraid to show it!

Disclaimer: not every wedding will have a walk down the aisle and that’s okay! If you choose to forego tradition, we will make sure you’re also prepared and feeling confident in your own way!

The best tips for the wedding day always involve you really feeling the moments. Be present. Enjoy every last second. Allow yourself to celebrate and take in the joy. Not only will your photos be incredibly natural and beautiful, but they will be candid shots filled with so many memories. Filled with SO much love!

That’s my wish for you on your wedding day. From getting ready to walking down the aisle, to the very last move on the dance floor – to just feel the love.
